For more than a decade, Liga Superbohaterów (League of Superheroes), a Polish non-profit founded by Tomasz Gierwiatowski, has been dedicated to bringing joy, hope, and emotional strength to children battling cancer and other serious illnesses. Their volunteers visit hospital wards dressed as superheroes, offering encouragement, imagination, and moments of relief during treatment. Recently, the foundation began exploring how AI and 3D technology could deepen the emotional impact of their work. After discovering Meshy, they launched a new initiative to transform children's hand-drawn heroes into real 3D-printed figures.
What followed was a powerful shift in how the team connects with young patients, supports their creativity, and uses technology as a tool for healing. Below, the foundation shares their experience, the therapeutic value of the project, and their vision for continuing to integrate Meshy into their mission to bring hope to children in oncology and hematology wards.
How did this project begin, and when did you realize Meshy could make it possible?
The project began with a simple mission for the children: to create their own superheroes. We handed out sheets of paper with empty frames and asked each child to draw a hero, give them a name, and imagine their special powers. The response was instant and heartwarming. Children who had been tired or quiet suddenly lit up with energy. The hospital atmosphere shifted as pencils began moving and creativity filled the room. Within hours, we received every drawing back—colorful, imaginative, and full of personality. Each hero reflected the child's dreams, fears, strength, and hope, and we immediately sensed that these drawings could become something more.
For years, we had relied on 3D printing and regularly sought new technologies to give us more time with the children. We followed AI developments closely, and two years ago we imagined a simple miracle: being able to upload a drawing and instantly receive a printable 3D model. When we eventually discovered Meshy, we watched its progress grow rapidly. The turning point arrived this October when a friend asked us to print a miniature figure of his RPG character. We tested the drawing in Meshy's Pro version, and the result left us speechless. The model was clean, detailed, and immediately ready to print without any manual adjustments.
In that moment, we understood how transformative this could be for our work. Meshy allowed us to turn children's superhero drawings into real, tangible figures—something they could hold, paint, and treasure during their treatment. That realization changed everything.
How do you transform children's drawings into real 3D superheroes?
With Meshy, our workflow became clear and powerful. During hospital visits, each child draws their hero. We then return to our headquarters and upload those drawings to Meshy, which transforms them into 3D models within minutes. One child named Andrzej (Andrew) created Popek, a hero who shoots popcorn at villains. The drawing was simple, joyful, and full of personality. Meshy transformed it beautifully.

When the figure appeared fully modeled, we knew immediately that this idea was something special. When we delivered the printed Popek model to him, his eyes lit up. He held the figure tightly as if it were a piece of his courage made real.

Another hero, Czarny Tygrys (Black Tiger), was created by Adam, a young patient in the hemato-oncology ward. His hero can summon tigers, climb any surface, and fight with razor-sharp claws. Meshy captured every detail of Adam's imagination. Moments like this show us what technology can do when used with compassion.

When we placed the finished 3D model in his hands, the way he held it showed that this hero was more than a figure. It was a symbol of courage shaped entirely from his own imagination. Seeing Adam smile, even briefly, reminded us that creativity can become a source of hope, and that giving a child the chance to see their ideas come alive can be a powerful part of their healing.

How Meshy helps you work with purpose?
Meshy has transformed the way we work by allowing us to turn children's drawings into 3D reality within minutes, freeing us from long hours of manual modeling and the constant struggle between time and quality. With this saved time, we can spend more moments where they matter most: visiting hospital wards, listening to children's stories, encouraging their creativity, and preparing experiences that lift their spirits. Meshy lets us blend imagination, technology, and emotional healing in a way we never thought possible, and for children facing life-threatening illnesses, even a brief moment of joy can help restore hope.
As the first superhero figures are being printed and prepared for delivery, we are excited to share the children's reactions and the stories behind their heroes once they hold their creations in their hands. We know this is only the beginning of a long-term partnership between Meshy and Liga Superbohaterów, one where creativity, technology, and compassion come together to change lives. We are deeply grateful to Meshy for giving us a way to turn imagination into healing.
