A halberd, a two-handed polearm that was prominent from the 13th to 16th centuries. It consists of: An axe blade topped with a spike mounted on a long shaft. A hook and a thorn on the back side of the axe blade. It was used in medieval battles and is still the ceremonial weapon of the Swiss Guard in the Vatican.
