A slender, graceful wasp with a remarkably narrow petiole, or "waist," separating its glossy black and bright yellow-banded abdomen from its thorax. Its long, delicate legs are dark and spindly. The two pairs of membraneous, almost transparent wings are elongated and stiff, giving it a streamlined appearance. The surface is smooth and slightly reflective, indicating a tough, chitinous exterior.
