A fine layer of reddish-brown rust clings to crevices and low areas, contrasting with smoother, slightly polished edges where the iron has been worn or touched. Matte overall, the surface shows occasional metallic glints under angled light. Tiny pitting, scaling, and flaking give the iron an authentic, time-worn character, evoking centuries of exposure and use.
